![]() ![]() ![]() Those conversations and the commitments that followed are grounded in the hard work we have done together here on this island. There President Biden and Vice President Harris met with CARICOM leaders to address the overlapping challenges of COVID-19, the impact of climate change, food and energy insecurity, and lack of access to financing. We began this month together, as mentioned, at the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles. We celebrate tonight in the month of June, which is Caribbean-American Heritage Month. So, two more years in the Caribbean sounds perfect to me. However, our first diplomat, Benjamin Franklin, served nine years in Paris. That’s longer than most diplomatic tours. This is my seventh Independence Day as the United States Ambassador to Barbados. In all seriousness, tonight is a celebration of democracy, not just ours – but the democratic history and heritage that define this region – and the brave women and men from Boston to Bridgetown who sacrificed so that we may enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Minister, the dance-off begins immediately after the speeches. Tonight, the oldest republic in the hemisphere parties with the youngest. Today, we celebrate the 246th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. Let me first say – welcome! How good it is to see all of you and celebrate together. ![]()
